Transportation Methods

Open Car Carrier e1720874405492

Open Car
Carrier

The most popular and economic method of auto transport is on an open car carrier. This is an open, two level trailer and depending on its size can load 8 – 10 small sized passenger vehicles.

Most vehicles can be transported on an open car carrier with no problem. In fact, most all new car dealerships and new car manufacturer’s moves are accomplished on an open car carrier.

The negative effects in regards to an open carrier is that the vehicle is not protected from the weather elements or possible road debris.

Price quotes given are normally based on open car carrier services unless otherwise stated. If you would like a rate to transport your vehicle via an enclosed car carrier, please let us know.

Enclosed Car Carrier e1720874572896

Enclosed
Car Carrier

If you are worried that your car is going to get dirty or have road debris possibly hit your vehicle, then we recommend enclosed car moving.

Enclosed carrier transport ensures that your vehicle is provided the optimal level of security and protection from the elements and road debris.

Enclosed carrier services are more costly, however, are highly recommended for the transport of high value vehicles, classic autos, antiques, newly restored, specially equipped and vehicles with low spoilers and/or ground effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

heading after

Welcome to Transcar’s comprehensive FAQ section. We have organized the most common
questions into categories to help you find the information you need quickly and efficiently.

Cost, Payment & Cancellation Policy

No, the shipping cost is not influenced by either the original purchase price or the current value of your vehicle. We calculate shipping rates based on various factors such as distance, vehicle size, and route specifics.

We offer flexible payment options:

  1. Full Credit Card Payment: You can pay the entire transport cost upfront using a credit or debit card.
  2. Other Payment Options: ACH, Wire Transfer, or any other electronic transfer.
  3. Please note we do not accept personal checks

Absolutely. If you prefer the convenience of a one-time payment, you can pay the full transport cost using a credit or debit card at the time of booking.

No.  Transcar likes to keep things simple for our customers.  You’ll make a single payment to Transcar when you book your shipment.  Transcar will then take care of paying the truck driver for their services.  If a truck driver ever request payment from you, please call Transcar and we’ll address this with the Driver.

Yes, we offer discounts for shipping multiple vehicles, especially if they are transported on the same truck from and to the same locations. The exact discount varies based on the number of vehicles and specific details of the shipment. Please call us at 682-252-4654 for a customized quote.

Yes, we proudly support our active and retired military personnel by offering special discounts. Contact us at 682-252-4654 to discuss the best possible rate for your shipment.

  • Before Dispatch: If your order has not been assigned to a driver, you are eligible for a full refund.
  • After Dispatch: If your order has been assigned, you can receive a refund minus a service fee of $150. This fee covers the services rendered up to that point.

You can cancel your order at any time before a driver is confirmed and dispatched without any penalty. If you cancel after a driver has been assigned, a non-refundable service fee applies. Please note that cancellations must be submitted in writing to info@transcar.com as per our Cancellation Policy.

No, vehicle shipping is a tax-exempt service. Our prices are all-inclusive, and there are no hidden fees or additional taxes.

Insurance & Personal Items

While it’s recommended, your vehicle doesn’t need to be insured for shipping. During trucking, your vehicle is covered by the carrier’s cargo and liability insurance policies up to $100,000.  However, Cargo liability insurance, does not cover Acts of God, such as hail, tornados, hurricanes, etc., and therefore it is recommended that you maintain coverage on your vehicle that would cover damage occurring due to an Act of God.

For Overseas shipments such as for Hawaii and Guam, we strongly suggest you take out Marine Insurance Coverage because your vehicle does not have any coverage.  Transcar offers Marine Insurance so if you’re interested in this coverage, please contact your sales representative.

  • Land Shipments: Yes, your vehicle is covered by the carrier’s Trucking Cargo Insurance policy, typically up to $100,000, subject to certain limitations and exclusions.
  • Ocean Shipments: No, your vehicle is not insured.  Transcar does offer Marine Insurance which is a All Risk policy.  Please contact your sales representative for details.
  • For Land Shipments: No, there is no deductible to pay if you need to file a claim for damage during transport.
  • For Oceans Shipments: If you take out Transcar’s Marine Insurance, there is a 2% deductible.

No, Personal items are not allowed to be left in the vehicle.  Seats must remain upright. Be aware that carriers have restrictions, and unauthorized items may lead to additional fees or refusal of shipment.

Auto carriers are not licensed to carry household goods or personal items, therefore it is not recommended to leave items of that nature in your vehicle. Factory issued equipment and aftermarket items permanently installed are allowed to be left with the vehicle and will be noted accordingly on the truck bill of lading. If you do leave items in the trunk of your vehicle such as pillows, blankets, etc., the cargo insurance liability or driver will not accept any liability in case of loss or damage. Therefore, it is not recommended to leave anything in your vehicle other than standard factory issued equipment and accessories.

No, personal belongings inside your vehicle are not covered by the carrier’s insurance. Neither Transcar nor the carrier is liable for any personal items left in the vehicle during transport.

Any damage to your vehicle’s interior caused by personal items is not covered by the carrier’s insurance. Personal items can shift during transit, potentially causing damage, so pack carefully.

The value is based on the actual cash value of your vehicle at the time of transport.

  1. Inspect your vehicle thoroughly upon delivery.
  2. Note any damages on the Bill of Lading/Vehicle Condition Report.
  3. Obtain a copy of the signed Bill of Lading from the driver.
  4. Take photographs of the damage.
  5. Contact Transcar to request the carrier’s Certificate of Insurance.
  6. File a claim with the carrier’s insurance company.

Pickup & Delivery

Shipping time varies based on distance:

  • 0 – 200 miles: 1 – 2 days
  • 200 – 600 miles: 2 – 4 days
  • 600 – 1,000 miles: 3 – 5 days
  • 1,000 – 1,500 miles: 4 – 6 days
  • 1,500 – 2,000 miles: 5 – 7 days
  • 2,000 – 2,400 miles: 6 – 8 days
  • 2,400 miles and up: 7 – 9 days

Please note these are estimates and actual times may vary.

We recommend booking at least two weeks before your desired pickup date. Due to market fluctuations, we accept orders up to 30 days in advance.

While we strive to meet your scheduling needs, guaranteeing exact pickup or delivery dates is not possible.  We require a 5 business day pick up window.

We do offer expedited shipping options for guaranteed pickup dates. Please contact us at 682-252-4654 for a customized quote.

Once a driver is assigned to your shipment, we’ll notify you via email with the estimated pickup date and the driver’s contact information. The driver will also reach out to you in advance to confirm details.

Yes, you or an authorized representative (over 18 years old) must be present at both pickup and delivery to inspect the vehicle and sign the Bill of Lading.

The Bill of Lading (BOL) is a legal document between you and the carrier. It outlines the details of the shipment, serves as a receipt, and records the condition of your vehicle at pickup and delivery. It’s crucial for filing any insurance claims.

At Pickup:

  • Inspect your vehicle with the driver.
  • Note any existing damages on the BOL.
  • Both parties sign the BOL.
  • Receive a copy for your records.

At Delivery:

  • Inspect your vehicle for any new damages.
  • Note any new damages on the BOL.
  • Both parties sign the BOL.
  • Pay any remaining balance if applicable.

No, Transcar offers door-to-door service. The driver will pick up and deliver your vehicle as close to your specified addresses as safely and legally possible. In some cases, due to restrictions, you may need to meet the driver at a nearby location.

Yes, you can change your first available shipping date before your vehicle has been dispatched to a carrier.

  • Clean your vehicle to allow for a thorough inspection.
  • Remove personal items, especially valuables.
  • Disable alarms and remove toll tags.
  • Ensure only a quarter tank of gas is in the vehicle.
  • Check for leaks and mechanical issues.
  • Secure or remove loose parts like antennas or spoilers.

We recommend leaving between 1/8 and 1/4 tank of fuel. This is sufficient for loading and unloading.

For trucking only shipments: No, only the vehicle and keys are required. However, ensure the person releasing and receiving the vehicle has proper authorization.

For ocean shipments: Yes, depending on where it’s going, we will need these.  Please consult with our sales representative for exact documents required.

Yes, providing the city or zip code is sufficient for an accurate quote. Exact addresses can be updated later.

When you ship your car with us, you have given us a date that your car will be available for shipping. Our dispatchers will then work to assign your automobile to the first available truck that can pick it up after it is ready for shipment. Our customer service department will then advise both the pickup and delivery points of contact that you have provided to us, with the estimated pick up and delivery dates. Our driver will then contact you or your appointed representatives at origin and destination, to further advise his estimated time of arrival at your location and also to coordinate a safe and legal loading or unloading location at or near your residence. At the time of pick up, the driver will complete a joint inspection of your auto and also at time of delivery. This is done in order to assure that your car has arrived safely and without transport damages. A copy of this inspection will be provided at time of pick up and at time of final delivery.

No your vehicle will NOT be driven other than for loading onto the transporter truck and off loading from the transporter.  The odometer readings should be noted at pickup and delivery of the vehicle. Any discrepancies will be noted and signed off by the driver on the delivery receipt.

Any loose parts or specialty items such as spoilers, fog lights, or mirrors should be removed or secured properly for  transport. Antennas should be removed or retracted. There should be an adequate supply of antifreeze in the radiator. The gasoline tank should have no more than one quarter. More gasoline in the tank only adds weight for transport. Make sure the battery is secure, with no leaks and fluid levels low enough to allow for expansion during transit. Any tears in convertible tops should be sealed or repaired to avoid further damage by air during transit.  Tearing of convertible tops by wind will not be covered by cargo insurance.  Alarm devices should be deactivated. Lastly, make sure that the vehicle is clean enough to allow accurate inspection at pickup.

Yes, once your order has been dispatched, we will provide you with the contact information of the carrier assigned to transport your vehicle. While drivers are legally prohibited from responding to inquiries while driving, the dispatch team for the carrier company can offer timely updates on your shipment’s status. Additionally, you can contact our vehicle transport service team at 682-252-4654 for any questions or concerns. We are committed to assisting you and will coordinate with the driver to provide you with the latest information.

As soon as we have assigned a driver to your vehicle shipment, we will promptly reach out to you with all the relevant details. It typically takes between 1 to 5 business days to secure a truck for your order. Rest assured, we will notify you immediately once a driver is confirmed to keep you informed throughout the process.

What is the difference between a carrier and a broker?

  • Carrier: Owns and operates the trucks that transport vehicles.
  • Broker: Coordinates shipments between customers and carriers, leveraging a network to find the best match and rates.

Transcar operates as a fully licensed and bonded transport management company, working with a vast network of carriers to ensure efficient and reliable service.

A carrier is a company that owns and operates the trucks used to transport vehicles. Often, carriers are owner-operators who manage their own schedules and typically serve specific routes. They usually coordinate shipments through brokers to find customers.

A broker, like Transcar, maintains a vast network of carriers across the country. Brokers can often provide lower rates because they have access to multiple carriers competing for your shipment. They also handle the verification of carriers’ USDOT authority, federal licenses, and cargo insurance, ensuring that your vehicle is transported by a legitimate and qualified carrier. This vetting process can be challenging to manage on your own, so working with a broker simplifies the process and provides peace of mind.

Transcar arranges transport for all types of vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, minivans, and standard cargo or passenger vans. We also offer specialized shipping solutions for custom or modified vehicles. No matter the size or type of your vehicle, we have the expertise and resources to handle its transport safely and efficiently.

The First Available Shipping Date is the earliest date your vehicle is ready to be picked up. While we strive to accommodate this date, it may not always be possible to schedule the pickup exactly on that day due to carrier availability. If we cannot pick up your vehicle on the First Available Shipping Date, we aim to arrange for pickup within our usual window of 1 to 5 business days starting from that date. For more detailed information, please refer to our guidelines on pickup dates and times.

Yes, when you place an order with Transcar, you agree to our Terms and Conditions, which serve as the contract for the transaction.

Transcar was established in 2006, and we have been providing reliable vehicle transport services ever since.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 682-252-4654 or visit our website for more information.
